What I Learned from the Hummingbird in my Garage

Today, I am reminded of the Hummingbird who thought it was trapped in our garage. The door was open, but it kept flying UP, thinking it was flying the right way when all the time it was missing the huge opening of the garage door. It would have died doing this, dehydrated, etc., if I hadn't plucked it out of the air with my own hands, taken it outside, held it to the feeder to replenish and fly on its own power.

Sometimes as Christians we are so busy flying up, holding onto the things we believe are God, truths, traditions, or heritage passed down from our parents that got muddled along the way. Suddenly we are tied  to a past and path the Father God never intended us to travel or cling to . . . one that if we don't divert from will end poorly for us.

Where do you feel stuck today? Coming up against the same old walls? Same old glass ceilings or windows we fly into thinking we're looking at the sky, only to find we've slammed into them all over again?

These are the very places that likely point to a wide-open door you are meant to go through, but sadly your mindsets are stopping you from entering and being free. Perhaps that's why the Bible says to renew your mind through the washing of the rhema (or spoken) word of God.

Take time today to list your roadblocks; they may even look like another person. If they do, remember the Hummingbird was certain that it just had to fly upwards, even though it kept hitting the same old ceiling. It could have blamed the bikes hanging up there for impeding its path. It could have blamed itself. If only it were strong enough, smart enough, wise enough, had the right opportunities, it could escape this dungeon and fly into it's destiny. But the Hummingbird kept believing the ceiling was the sky, and kept doing what it knew to do, even though it wasn’t true

Today, the Father is offering you a hand. He's actually reaching out to pluck you from of the prison you are in, and take you outside to the real sky. He promises to hold you until you are strong enough to fly. He will watch over you until you have eaten of the tree of life and the real truth will set you free to fly . . . the way you've always known you were made to fly.

Today, ask yourself what is your ceiling, your obstacles, where are you stuck? Ask Him to SEE as you allow yourself to be held in His hands. Then drink and eat of the truth, let go of the past and false thinking, and embrace His truth, not someone else's, and see if you can't fly . . . really fly.
