Meet this month's Human Trafficking Abolitionist
It's no secret that we here at Timbelo are actively joining the fight against human trafficking, but thankfully, we aren't alone in that fight. Each month, we would like to introduce you to a fellow human trafficking abolitionist who is working to make our very own city a safer place for everyone.
This month's local Human Trafficking Abolitionist is Jorge Diaz-Guma. He is currently entering his second year at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where he is studying Criminal Law. Before attending law school, he received his bachelor's in philosophy at Florida International and received a master's degree in political philosophy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Coming from a family that deeply values service to others, Jorge has always been interested in volunteer work, particularly helping children who might need some extra protection. This led him to work voluntarily as a guardian ad litem for a time before he started school at UC. He is also the Legislation and Policy fellow with End Slavery Cincinnati, a coalition that is actively working to end human trafficking, as well as take care of human trafficking survivors. As the legislation and policy fellow, he spends his days collecting data on social policy and legislation that relates to human trafficking and making it consumable for the general public, as well as meeting with fellow anti-human trafficking leaders. He says that one of his favorite things about working with the coalition is getting to see the impact of their work firsthand in the community. Post-law school, Jorge hopes to go into federal prosecution.
