Destiny Rescue Stops Trafficker at Border

Here at Timbelo, we love to share stories about people who were brave enough to leave their traffickers and of immediate-response organizations that help them. Stories that don't typically get as much attention, however, are ones that end before they even truly begin. In April, 2021, 17-year-old Tara was approached by 35-year-old Barburam after performing dance at a fair in her village. Barburam praised Tara's dancing and gave her his phone number. Over the next few days, he built a relationship with her and eventually told her that if she followed him to a different country, he could make her dreams come true; she could dance in music videos and get paid to do so! After some initial hesitation and some master manipulation by Barburam, Tara agreed. Thankfully, they were stopped by Destiny Rescue agents at the border, where their arrangement was recognized as a trafficking situation in the making.
