What is End It Movement and Why Should We Care?

At Timbelo, we create empowering atmospheres that transform lives. We believe that all people have God-given gifts and talents that can be used in powerful ways if they simply understand their own potential and step into all the beautiful plans God has made for them. Sadly, there are people in this world who are directly being held back from their potential in the most literal sense. Rather than being empowered, they are being enslaved. Their power, their voice, their talents, and their autonomy are being robbed from them daily. This is the devastating reality of human trafficking.

Human trafficking is defined as the sale and transportation of human beings, usually for labor or sexual exploitation. According to the “END IT” Movement, a coalition of people actively working against the sex trafficking epidemic, there are currently 40.3 million people enslaved around the world. That’s 40.3 million people who are being told that their worth is defined by what they can do for others, that love is transactional, and that all they’ll ever be is a slave and a victim. Of that 40.3 million, 71% are women.

Our current society has set unrealistic expectations for how women should look and feel through the continuous stream of media. It can be hard enough for a woman to look at herself and see someone capable and worthy of love. It is all the more difficult for someone who has experienced slavery to understand why anyone would love them without expecting something in return. The thought of freedom and deep relationship is even more foreign to someone who is currently trapped in slavery.

The thought of someone being enslaved, exploited, and robbed of love or safety is a sobering one. Realizing the magnitude of this issue or the depth of the pain it causes can be completely overwhelming. Honestly, how can one person make an impact when they’re up against a global issue that is harming millions of people on a daily basis? Thankfully in this vast sea of pain and hopelessness, there are people who are banding together to end human trafficking and heal the deep hurt that comes along with it. Timbelo is proud to be one of these organizations taking a stance against human trafficking; we are blessed to give monthly to aid in the fight.

Today, thousands of people all over the world signify their dedication to ending slavery by joining the “END IT” Movement and drawing red X's on their hands. Knowing about slavery is the first step to putting an end to the exploitation of others. Please join us as we continue to learn about human trafficking and do our part to put an end to the exploitation of our brothers and sisters.
