Sometimes, a single moment can change our lives forever. For proof of this, look no further than our February human trafficking abolitionist, Scarlet Hudson! After receiving her cosmetology license, Scarlet spent an illustrious career in cosmetology, working her way up from stylist to Director of Education for Matrix and L'Oreal. After deciding to volunteer and do outreach work with her church, however, her life was completely flipped upside-down. During her very first night of outreach, Scarlet met a young lady who had experienced unbelievable trauma and pain. Her heart was broken for this girl, and it was in that moment that she knew she had to do something about this. In 2010, she started her ministry "Women of Alabaster" to do just that. What began as ministry out of her van in 2012 has now become a full-fledged 501(c)(3), with two separate locations. Her first location in Over The Rhine is a place where women can stop in every day and get basic necessities and support, as well as talk with a case manager and social worker and have access to forensic nurses from the Josephine Clinic. On August 3rd, 2020, Women of Alabaster opened their second location, a farm where women can go to recover and learn to begin again. This often includes trauma therapy and recovery from addiction as they begin their journey of letting go of the past and moving towards their bright future. "It takes a village to do this, really," says Hudson. "Someone has to be ready to change." When she's not serving at her ministry, Scarlet is also a member of Shared Hope International and a mentor in Hamilton County's Change Court. Thank you, Scarlet, for all of your incredible work!
