Sturdy Growth Requires Support
Before we get into our topic for this post, I want you to think back to a time in your life when you overcame a seemingly overwhelming challenge. Did you do it all on your own? Probably not! We all appreciate a little bit of help when we're doing something new and challenging. Those escaping any form of trafficking are no different.
Some people, they've been exploited for a very long time and don't know any other way of life. Sometimes, a struggle with substance abuse comes along with their exploitation. Then, when they try to leave their situation, sometimes survivors are hit with criminal charges. This is especially a problem for victims of sex trafficking. Finally, finding the courage to risk an escape and then immediately running into all of these other challenges can be incredibly discouraging. Sometimes, survivors even go back to their traffickers because they quickly become burnt out trying to make such a huge life change.
These challenges are precisely why survivor care is so vital. Whether it be legal, medical, financial, or emotional, layers of support are crucial to helping those coming out of a trafficking situation. This is yet another reason why teamwork is essential to ending human trafficking. Each and every survivor has different needs, and each and every advocate has diverse talents to match. We have to make sure that those in need find those who can help.
