Adjusting to Change

If there's one thing that every single human being can expect to face it's change. Our bodies grow, our minds expand, people move, and new job opportunities come along. All of these things typically bring good along with them, but transitional periods can be stressful, no matter how great the outcome will be. So how do we cope with change when it inevitably comes our way?

One really easy way is to find a solid support system. When things are changing, having people you can count on, no matter what the situation, can help ease any anxiety you might have. Even if someone is far away, sometimes all it takes is hearing their voice to feel better!

Another tip for coping with change is staying present. It's easy to get caught up in fear or the future or obsession with the past. Instead, recognize where you are right now. Take some steadying breaths, recognize where stress or tension is being held in your body, eat something delicious to nourish your body, and appreciate where you are in this very moment.

Finally, take some time to think about your priorities. Times of change can remind us of what's most important to us, or remind us of our goals. How can you maintain your values during this change? How will these changes push you towards your goals in life? How can you make an opportunity out of this difficult time?

Change can be difficult, but it doesn't have to wreck us! Find your support, practice mindfulness, and meditate on your priorities.
