Practical Tips for the Individual Advocate
Human trafficking is an enormous problem. It plagues every nation in the world, traffickers fly under the radar, and it causes trauma that lasts a lifetime. Looking at all of these factors, it's easy to become overwhelmed. Often, people will become convinced that individuals don’t have anything to offer to work against this problem. Thankfully, this simply isn't true! Everyone has something to offer and every helping hand counts. To help all of our individual advocates, we have started a series with some practical tips on how to join the work against trafficking!
Today's tip for the individual advocate: Utilize your talents!
When we say that everybody has something to offer this work, we mean it. Survivors have a variety of needs and we are all made with different abilities that can help fill those needs. Those with a knack with words and social media can promote awareness and help dispel the myths and misinformation that surrounds this issue. People who can create things with sewing, knitting, crocheting, or quilting are able to make things like blankets or hats for places that provide direct care to survivors. For people who might still be in trafficking situations without proper shelter, these kinds of supplies can make all the difference. People who play sports can join clubs that use sports to reach youth who could be vulnerable to trafficking situations and give them a safe place. In fact, using your talents to help prevent human trafficking situations before they even occur is one of the most important ways we can help to end human trafficking.
Whatever talents or abilities you have, you have a place in the anti-human trafficking movement.
